Great eight as stunning winning run continues

-

east FIFE 3 Brechin CITY 1

East Fife – Dunsmore (43) Dowds (72), Agnew (pen 79); Brechin – Tapping (61) East Fife made it a stunning eight victories in a row by easing past Brechin City at Bayview.

Scott Agnew went close early on for the Fifers with Jonny Court also causing problems with a header which sailed off target.

Anton Dowds was the next to go close when he broke through on Connor Brennan’s goal, only for the Brechin keeper to get off his line quickly and smother the ball.

Court again went close with an effort from an angle which sailed a foot over.

The home side scored a couple of minutes from the break when Ryan Mcgeever’s passback was woefully short and Aaron Dunsmore pickied the ball up and calmly slotted past Brennan.

East Fife found themselves pegged back shortly after the hour mark when Sean Burns was bundled over inside the box. Callum Tapping stepped up and sent Brett Long the wrong way.

Brechin weren’t level for long, though, Dowds restoring East Fife’s lead with a terrific close- range finish.

The win was wrapped up with 10 minutes to go when Scott Agnew netted from the spot after Dowds had been fouled by Aron Lynas.

arbroath 3 dumbarton 1

Arbroath – Wallace (60), Doris (73), Swankie (75); Dumbarton – Russell (15) The Sons went ahead in the 15th minute when Lichties keeper Darren Jamieson failed to hold a long-range effort and Iain Russell was on hand to knock the rebound home.

The home side had a penalty claim turned down midway through the half when Bobby Linn went down in the box.

Just before the interval, Russell tested Jamieson with a header, which the keeper gathered safely.

Arbroath pulled level in the 60th minute when Michael Mckenna teed up Ryan Wallac, who sent a delightful chip into the far corner of the net.

The Lichties went ahead in the 73rd min, sub Steven Doris getting on the end of a wonderful Gavin Swankie cross to knock the ball beyond Robbie Mutch.

The home side went further ahead two minutes later, Swankie on the mark with a crisp finish.

RAITH rovers 2 stranraer 1

Raith – Nisbet (5, 39); Stranraer – Donnelly (28) Some hesitant Stranraer possession encouraged Nathan Flanagan to intercept and set up Kevin Nisbet for a fifth-minute opener for John Mcglynn’s side.

Raith found themselves pulled level before the half-hour mark as Stranraer’s Luke Donnelly pounced on David Smith’s centre to equalise in the 28th minute.

Parity lasted only 11 minutes as Ross Matthews’ flick teed up Nisbet for his and Raith’s second of the afternoon.

Mcglynn’s men suffered what seemed a potentially costly blow on the stroke of half-time when Euan Murray was shown a second yellow card for simulation.

A tense second half ensued with Raith content to soak up the occasional spell of Stranraer pressure.

In the final minute, Stranraer’s Ciaran Diver headed wide from close range.

stenhousemuir 1 Forfar 2

Stenhousemuir – Neill (55); Forfar – Easton (22), Baird (26) Forfar’s Dale Hilson struck the crossbar in the 17th minute from a Jamie Bain cross, then Connor Duthie almost turned another cross into his own net.

The Loons took a deserved lead in the 22nd minute when ?????? Dylan showed good footwork to tuck the ball into the corner of the net.

Four minutes later, they extended their lead when John Baird drilled the ball into the net.

Just after the restart, Hilson struck the woodwork again, but Stenhousemuir came into the game and reduced the margin in the 53rd minute when Morgyn Neill converted a Duthie free-kick.

Although the Warriors tried hard to get back into the game, it was the visitors who came closest to scoring when Murray Mackintosh hit the post late on.

Montrose 0 airdrieonians 3

Duffy (pen 19, 36), Vitoria (80) Airdrie took the lead in 19 minutes. Danny Cavanagh was judged to have fouled Dale Carrick and Darryl Duffy scored from the spot.

Airdrie scored again in 36 minutes. A long ball had the home defence all at sea and Duffy ran in to score.

At the start of the second half, Montrose sub Martin Rennie should have scored with his first touch, but David Hutton managed to save.

Airdrie were out of luck in 56 minutes when Carrick hit a shot off the post.

It was 3-0 on 80 minutes. Carrick crashed a shot off the crossbar and Joao Vitoria followed up to net the rebound.
