Barry’s Kelty move suprised me – but also impressed me

-

Barry Ferguson enjoyed a playing career at the top level in Scotland and England.

That’s why I’m surprised he has dropped out of the SPFL to pursue his managerial ambitions. But I’m also impressed. Kelty Hearts have got themselves a big name in Wee Fergie – a name that lives up to their big ambitions.

It’s a real coup for them. And if Barry can help the Fifers achieve their goals, he will become an attractive prospect for league clubs.

He didn’t have the best time towards the end of his spell as Clyde manager.

Maybe that’s why he has made such a bold leap down the pyramid.

When things are going wrong, a manager’s office can be a lonely place.

The pressure is enormous, both from outside and inside.

Gaffers tend to be their own biggest critics – and it can lead to plenty of sleepless nights.

A wee spell at Kelty could help Barry enjoy the job of being a manager again.

The Fife club have got a wee bit of cash and are willing to spend it in pursuit of their SPFL dream.

They will hope Barry – with decades of success in the game behind him – can lead them there.

If he does, I’ll be chuffed for him.
