Lyle brace keeps Blue Toon in touch at top

Peterhead kept in touch with leaders Edinburgh City after this win.

The visitors led with a stunner on 23 minutes when Scott Brown unleashed a fierce 25-yarder past Blair Currie.

The Blue Toon were reduced to 10 men on 62 minutes when Mick Dunlop was shown a straight red card for an overlyrobu­st challenge on David Goodwillie.

It was soon 10 v 10 as Clyde’s Tom Lang picked up two quick bookings.

On 73 minutes, Derek Lyle finished well for 2-0, before the Bully Wee pulled a goal back five minutes later when Karim Belmokhtar’s cross hit Jason Brown for an own goal.

It was 3-1 when Lyle finished well from 22 yards.

Berwick boss Johnny Harvey, in his first league game in charge, saw his team end up with 10 men.

Berwick’s first dismissal came on 16 minutes when central defender John Neil was shown a straight red card for kicking David Cox.

Cowden took the lead on 28 minutes, Swann firing home from 15 yards.

Nine minutes later, he made it 2-0 from a penalty after skipper Robert Wilson tripped Martin Scott.

On 77 minutes, Wilson was sent off for an over-the-top tackle, with Hamilton following him off soon after for a foul.

From the resulting free-kick, Fraser Mullen slammed in a loose ball into the bottom corner past Sean Brennan.

John Cunningham had an early chance for Albion, but his effort was just wide.

Queen’s Park’s response was swift – Lewis Hawke firing them in front from close range after Euan East had cut the ball back.

Not long after, the visitors doubled their advantage when Jamie Mckernon tucked the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

Hawke almost grabbed his second, but PJ Morrison was well positioned to save.

Managerles­s Albion were reduced to 10 men five minutes from time when Gary Fisher picked up his second booking – his second red card in successive weeks. Smart Osadolor then added Queen’s Park’s third goal in the closing stages.

Edinburgh City notched up their 12th victory in a row in all competitio­ns to stay two points clear of Peterhead at the top of Ladbrokes League 2.

The only goal came after 38 minutes when Craig Thomson headed past Cammy Binnie.

Albion, with Kevin Rutkiewicz in charge for the first time, struggled to create chances.

Annan broke the deadlock on the 38th minute when a Owen Moxon’s powerful strike from outside the box beat Elgin keeper Kyle Gourlay.

Early in the second half, Shane Sutherland had a chance to level, but he fired a shot just wide from 18 yards.

Right on time, Elgin’s Shane Sutherland saw his free-kick saved by Jonny Jamieson.
