Honest Men turn on the style in the second half

Junior champions Beith put up a great fight for over an hour before Championsh­ip leaders Ayr finally stamped their mark.

There was no scoring in the first half, then Ayr’s Andy Geggan hit the bar soon after the restart.

The Honest Men scored on 64 minutes when Craig Mcguffie and Michael Moffat combined to set up Lawrence Shankland to fire home.

A quarter-of-an-hour later, Ross Docherty drove home after Shankland nodded across goal.

Moffat had the final say in the dying seconds when he fired home via the post from Luke Mccowan’s pass.

In 28 minutes, Andrew Steeves had a header deflected over for Montrose, then, at the other end, Ayrton Sonkur headed over.

In 73 minutes, Wallace had the ball in the net with a header, but was given offside.

In stoppage-time, Montrose had Michael Bolochowec­kyj sent off for an off the ball clash.

Then Annan almost won the game when Owen Moxon strode forward and hit the post.

Brora player-boss Steve Mackay was a danger and, in 18 minutes, he fired in an angled 14-yarder which Mcgurn held.

On 36 minutes, Kyle Macleod was clean through on Mcgurn, but fired wide from only 10 yards.

Two minutes later, Cowden took the lead when David Cox sent a header wide of Joe Malin.

With 20 minutes left, a Fraser Mullen cross was perfect for Kris Renton, but Brora keeper Malin made a brilliant save.

Alloa moved in front after half-an-hour when Dario Zanatta scored with a leftfoot shot from Jon Robertson’s pass.

Alloa booked their place in the fourth round with two goals in three minutes. Alan Trouten set up Greig Spence, who made it 2-0 with a left-foot shot.

Then Trouten deservedly got on the scoresheet with a right-foot shot from 12 yards.

The Blue Toon went ahead when Ryan Dow pulled the ball back for Scott Brown to stroke past Derek Gaston.

Gaston denied the visitors a second with a smart stop from Jack Leitch, before the hosts scored the equaliser when Jack Iredale put over a cross to the front post for Bob Mchugh to head home.

Morton almost won it at the death when Mchugh’s header flew wide.

Early on, Stranraer’s David Brownlie headed narrowly over, while, at the other end, Ryan Wallace stung Max Currie’s fingers with a volley.

Wallace should have given the Lichties the lead in the seventh minute, but dragged his shot wide.

Early on, Reece Donaldson’s header almost put Gala ahead but it was stopped by keeper Matthew Mcginley, then Dale Baxter saw his shot go inches past.

Kilby’s Bernard Coll almost scored in 17 minutes, but his shot brought a great save from keeper Patrick Martin, who stopped an Anton Brady shot minutes later.

On 85 minutes, sub Jamie Longworth’s shot was blocked on the line, but, early in time-added, he hit a 12-yard winner.

Forfar had the ball in the net on the halfhour when Michael Travis nodded in, but the referee ruled it out for a foul on Martin Grehan.

The Loons eventually broke the deadlock in the 75th minute as Lewis Moore’s cross was flicked home by John Baird from close range.

Forfar sealed the tie five minutes from time when Baird turned provider for Moore to coolly slot home.
