Mclean’s thunderbol­t earns win for Blue Toon

It was second v fourth at Balmoor Stadium with the hosts aiming to keep the pressure on leaders Edinburgh City.

Peterhead made the perfect early start when full-back Paddy Boyle clipped a beautifull­y-weighted pass to the far post and ace predator Derek Lyle sidefooted in to give his side the initiative.

Ten minutes from the end, there was controvers­y. Referee David Dickinson spotted an offence by Jason Brown and, after he was cautioned, Tony Wallace lashed home the penalty for the leveller.

Just when a draw looked on the cards, a thunderous shot from the Blue Toon’s Russell Mclean flew high into the net in the 84th minute.

Berwick took the lead at Clyde when trialist Lewis Barr pounced to tuck the ball low into the net.

Barr then netted for the second time, this time heading Ross Brown’s cross high into the net.

It was then 3-0 on the stroke of half-time when Paul Willis drilled a freekick into the bottom right-hand corner of the net.

In the second half, David Goodwillie darted into the box to produce a clinical finish, then Dylan Coghill got on the end of a Mark Lamont cross on 64 minutes to tap home for 3-2.

Amazingly, Clyde were level five minutes later when Lamont’s pass found John Rankin, who picked his spot from just inside the box.

The deadlock was broken in 31 minutes when Blair Henderson forced the ball past Jordan Hart for his19th goal of the season.

Scott Shepherd made it 2-0 almost immediatel­y, driving home from Laird’s pass.

In 73 minutes, the visitors’ Dom Mclaren was given a second yellow card.

Elgin went ahead in 15 minutes when Kerr Hay beat Cammy Binnie.

It was 2-0 just four minutes later when Shane Sutherland ran on to squeeze a shot into the far corner.

Albion were back in it when Darren Smith converted a Ronan Hughes cross, and Neil Mclaughlin levelled when he lashed a shot home.

The Binos took the lead when Dylan Mackin thumped the ball home.

The visitors had left-back Jordan Lowdon sent off for a challenge on Danny Jardine shortly before the hour mark.

Stirling wrapped it up by scoring two more through a Smith header and Dom Docherty’s neat turn and finish.

Albion netted early on when David Mcgurn fouled Lewis Wilson and Jamie Gallagher slammed home the spot-kick.

Cowden levelled when Kyle Miller was brought down and Josh Skelly scored from the spot.

Cowden’s Robbie Buchanan was redcarded late on.
