GIVEN LAWRIE AN EVEN GREATER DESIRE TO SUCCEED

-

He is still waiting to hear back about other events he wants to play in, but he refuses to get downbeat.

He said: “I think there are only two invitations a week for those not exempt, and you are looking at 78-man fields.

“But I have an invitation for the Insperity Invitational in Houston, and a verbal OK for an invitation to the Rapiscan (Systems Classic) in Mississippi.

“That’s it as far as the Champions Tour is concerned. But I’m in all the Senior Majors for two years.

“So, at the moment my schedule over there is six events.

“I’m hoping to add a few more. However, I still want to play the main European Tour as well – the Scottish Open, Portugal, the Dunhill Links and so on.

“And if I can fix up the invitations I want on the Champions Tour, I’ll have a hell of a schedule as I have three tours to pick from – if I’m fit.”

Lawrie will return to the European Tour this coming week at the Oman Open, followed by the Qatar Masters after undergoing surgery on a long-term foot injury back in September.

He does not expect to hit the ground running following an eight-month absence from tournament golf.

But Lawrie stressed: “I’m not going there, knowing that I’m going to miss cuts.

“That’s not in me because I’m a competitor.

“But, equally, I’m not sitting here thinking that I can win. That’s not what these events are for.

“It’s about getting some competitiveness back and seeing where my game’s at before going into the Seniors.”
