Hamilton fight fan Aaron Mcgowan reckons his recent experience of a relegation scrap can prove invaluable to Accies in the weeks and months ahead.

Last season, the 2 2 - y e a r- o l d Liverpudlian was part of the Morecambe team which went agonisingly close to being relegated from the senior system.

The Shrimpers failed to win any of their last 10 league games in League Two and weren’t able to even score in their last four.

However, with their draw at Coventry on the last day earning them the point they needed, they were able to cling to their league status.

“I’ve been in this situation before with my old club. I know what it’s all about, in terms of how to churn out results,” said Mcgowan, as he looked ahead to today’s match against Rangers.

“We took it to the last game last season, and there was 20,000 at the Ricoh Arena. We needed a draw and managed a clean sheet to stay up, which was fantastic.

“Did I celebrate afterwards? I’m not a big drinker and the boxing was on – I watched the Tony Bellew fight instead.”

That was then. Now, thanks to his summer switch to Scotland, Mcgowan’s current agenda is trying to keep Hamilton climb away from not only the automatic relegation place but also the end-of-season play-offs.

“It’s important that I use the experience I’ve got to help us in the run-in,” he said.

“The biggest thing you have to do is believe in yourself and put trust in your team-mates.
