St Joseph’s fire warning to Rangers fans
Rangers’ Europa League clash in Gibraltar has been deemed a high- risk game by UEFA.
And the Light Blues’ opponents, St Joseph’s have warned that anyone with “Scottish connections” will be refused entry to their home stand.
Steven Gerrard’s side kick off the new season with the first leg of the first qualifying round in the British Overseas Territory.
The Glasgow giants have only been allocated around 900 tickets for the match at the tiny Victoria Stadium, with more than 1,400 fans applying for the briefs, which have a cover price of £ 30 each.
St Joseph’ shave considerably tightened up security for the game, after consultation with the Royal Gibraltar Police force.
And they have now beefed up their restrictions for home end tickets to ensure Rangers fans don’t gain entry to the home supporters stand.
The Gibraltar club stated: “We have followed local police and security advice to avoid a situation where Rangers fans could gain entry to our West Stand.
“Rangers fans already have the entire East Stand, and we need to have proper crowd segregation.
“We have already had Rangers fans buying tickets for the home end, even though they know they won’t be allowed in.
“As a result, we have instructed our stewards and security staff to only allow entry to those with a valid Gibraltar ID card or a residency card.
“Documentation from other countries demonstrating no Scottish connections, purely for security reasons, will be permitted.
“This is for everyone’s safety as it has been categorised as a high- risk game and we have followed advice.”
