Music fans savour top names as TRNSMT takes over summer
Thousands of festivalgoers enjoyed sets by Catfish and the Bottlemen and Bastille on the second day of Scotland’s biggest music festival.
Richard Ashcroft, Sigrid and Sundara Karma also delighted fans at TRANSMT yesterday.
Former Verve frontman Ashcroft endeared himself to the Glasgow crowd by wea r i ng a T- shirt emblazoned with the famous Barrowland Ballroom logo.
Around 50,000 music fans created a sea of neon and bucket hats.
Stalls around the site offered flags, whistles and a touch of glitter.
New to this yea r ’ s edition of the festival is the Queen Tut’s Stage, showcasing rising female-led acts.
Performers have hailed the initiative as important given the summer festival circuit is still largely dominated by male bands. The festival kicked off on Friday with performances from Gerry Cinnamon and Stormzy.
Fans of the London r a p p e r, f re s h from a triumphant headline slot at Glastonbury, feared he might miss his time slot as his flight was delayed by two hours.
But he arrived in time to perform after receiving a police escort to Glasgow Green.
Tod a y, G e o rge Ezra , Lewis Capaldi and Emeli Sande will take to the main stage.
Snow Patrol and Jess Glynne were part of the original line- up b ut pu l l e d out and were replaced by the latter two Scottish solo artists.
The weather is expected to be bright and s u n n y, so festivalgoers are being reminded to take sun cream and stay hydrated.
Organisers DF Concerts also confirmed that T in the Park, once the country’s biggest live event, would not return. Boss Geoff Ellis said: “It’s all about TRNSMT for us now.”
