Handling makes City slicker

-

James Mcdonaugh was a happy man after watching his side claim the scalp of Championship opposition at Ainslie Park, the Edinburgh City manager exalting: “I’m proud of the boys. I think that could have went either way.

“We were the better team in the first half and them in the second.

“There were spells in that second half where we dug in and defended well then we have a wee five minutes where we moved it better we get the goal and that’s a big achievement.

“Dunfermline have been flying so it was a good one for us in terms of confidence.”

It looked like the game was heading for stalemate. After a first half with no incidents of note, the second half followed largely the same pattern.

There were glimpses of quality in the Dunfermline side with City goalie Calum Antell forced to make two good saves. First, Antell got the slightest of fingertips onto a Kyle Turner effort on 57 minutes then again with 15 minutes to go when a thunderous effort from Lewis Mccann appeared goal-bound.

Everyone was setting themselves up for penalties when substitute Danny Handling popped up with three minutes to go to give his side the spoils.

A deflected shot fell into the path of the ex-hibs man who delicately lifted the ball over the onrushing Ryan Scully.

This was enough to dent the Pars’ 100% record this season with manager Stevie Crawford saying: “We are disappointed to lose the game on the back of two positive results.

“There wasn’t much in the game but we didn’t create enough chances and that’s what disappointed me most.”
