Chris is aiming for another Old Firm scalp

Chris Higgins has urged East Fife to make the most of their moment in the spotlight against Rangers this afternoon by proving they can handle the heat.

The Fifers earned their last- 16 spot with a draw – and penalty- kicks bonus point – against Hearts, but know this will be a bigger test.

Higgins, the former Dunfermline and Queen of the South defender, will be charged with trying to keep free-scoring duo Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe quiet.

But, as his own career winds down, he insists it could be the chance for his younger team-mates to make a name for themselves.

He said: “I’m sure the boys will be up for it, 100%, playing against a top club like Rangers.

“It’s a good opportunity for boys to go and put themselves in the shop window, really.

“Whoever wants to go and move on to maybe full-time football, it’s a chance for them to show what they can do.

“It’s something to enjoy, playing against a massive club like Rangers, even though it might be difficult.

“It’s good to test yourselves against the best in the country.”

Higgins was part of the Clyde side that stunned Celtic 2-1 on Roy Keane’s Hoops debut in the Scottish Cup in 2006.

With the way Rangers have started the season, both in the Premiership and in the Europa League, an East Fife victory would at least match that upset.

And Higgins is certainly expecting a hugely motivated Light Blues side to show up in Methil today as the Ibrox men eye the first chance to end Celtic’s domestic superiority.

The 34- year- old added: “It’s a one- off game, so anything can happen.

“That’s why the cups are so exciting, because shocks do happen. But it’s going to be a very difficult game.

“Their manager and Rangers as a club will be looking to go and win a trophy this season, so they’ll be right up for it and won’t be taking anything lightly.

“That’s the challenge for us.”
