Refund from solar cleaners

-

Evelyne Black found herself running out of energy while trying to get cash back from a solar panel cleaning company.

In May, she agreed to have the panels at her home in Turriff, Aberdeenshire, cleaned and checked by Glasgow-based firm Solar Scrub.

She had paid £275 for the service.

Solar panels work by allowing daylight to reach the cells underneath the glass, so if dirt builds up then less light gets through, meaning less power and less money each quarter from the feed-in tariff for the panels’ owners.

“After I hadn’t heard anything from the company for a week I wrote and cancelled the contract,” said Evelyne.

“The following week I got a phone call saying that the money would be returned to my account within the 28-day cancellation period.”

However, when Evelyne checked her bank account at the end of June she noted no refund had been made.

“I was then told again on the phone that everything would be sorted but still no money appeared.”

Following this, Evelyne said she wrote to, emailed and phoned the firm a number of times but with no success.

“I was getting nowhere,” said the frustrated homeowner.

We asked Solar Scrub to look into the matter.

A backdated cheque for £275 soon arrived in the post, which Evelyne has now cashed.

Evelyne said: “I am just annoyed that there was so much trouble getting my refund but I am delighted that I finally got my money back.

“Thank you to Raw Deal for stepping in and helping to move things along.”
