Ryan is ready to play anywhere in the Dark Blue

Ryan Jack says he is ready, willing and able to play in any position Scotland want him.

The Rangers midfielder’s fine form for his club has prompted suggestions he could be the answer to the nation’s tricky right-back position.

Kilmarnock’s Stephen O’donnell is the man currently in possession, but he struggled in the recent Euro 2020 qualifiers against Russia and Belgium.

Jack was at the centre of controversy in the double-header, with club boss Steven Gerrard displeased his player had to withdraw between games after aggravating an old knee issue in a double training session.

“It is something that is all forgotten about now, to be honest,” said Jack.

“Our manager had his say about what he thought. But as a player you have to train and do what you are asked.

“There is no issue, I don’t think there are any problems. It was just unfortunate for me in the timing and the way it happened.

“It actually happened before the Russia game, but I wanted to stay and be part of it.

“As the week went on and there was no improvement, so I knew I needed to come back to Rangers and have it checked.

“Thankfully it was nothing serious so we move on.”

Which, in Jack’s case, means targeting the upcoming games away to Russia and at home to San Marino, on October 10 and 13.

“When I get selected to play for my country, or to play at Rangers for that matter, I give 100%,” he said.

“Up until that point with my knee, I was delighted to be part of it and delighted to be training.

“But now I am fine and up for playing anywhere to be honest. If you get selected you go along, be professional and do your job.

“Wherever I get asked to play, I just need to do my best.

“I’ve said before that if I’m selected for Scotland I’m delighted. I want to go along and give 100% every day and show that I want to play.”

He also had reassuring words for national manager Steve Clarke about his ongoing condition.

“The knee has been fine all season. It was unfortunate that it swelled up when it did, but I have been scanned and checked and the medical team don’t think it’s anything serious,” said the 27-year-old.

“It just needed a wee injection to calm it down and I’m ready to go again.

“I don’t think it will change me or the way I train and play.

“I want to train every day, do every session and play every game.

“Until I physically can’t, I will be out there doing what I can.”
