Saints dominate in County draw

-

Zander Clark made a tremendous save to knock the attempt on to the post but Joe Chalmers was swift in following up to finish from seven yards.

After 20 minutes Tom Grivosti was adjudged to have brought Danny Swanson crashing in the box, against County howls of injustice.

But May, looking for his first goal since returning to the Perth club from Aberdeen, struck the spotkick poorly with Ross Laidlaw saving low to his left.

The Perth men were back in business after 34 minutes.

A move outside the County area ended with a Swanson flick in behind the defence.

May lost Fontaine and cut a low, angled finish beneath the home keeper from the right of the box.

Controversy flared as Saints took a 51st minute lead.

Home striker Mckay was down injured after studs to the chest from a Murray Davidson knock but referee Euan Anderson let play continue.

Kennedy broke from the centre circle and strode on before unleashing a fierce strike from distance that beat Laidlaw off the inside of his left hand post.

Just when the hosts began to look short on ideas, they struck back in sensational fashion.

Davidson clambered all over Michael Gardyne as they went for a high ball.

From the free-kick, ex-partick midfielder Blair Spittal, 22 yards out, produced the sweetest of strikes to beat Zander Clark inside his right hand post.

St Johnstone boss Wright snapped back at County claims of injustice.

He said: “We totally dominated the game from the first whistle – we had numerous chances and missed the penalty.

“We came up here and dominated possession, dominated the whole game.

“One free-kick gets them a point they don’t really deserve.”
