“Over the past five months I have posted a series of false stories to see if they made their way into the Sun newspaper...now I know for certain which account/individual it’s come from. I have saved and screenshotted all the original stories which clearly show just one person has viewed them. It’s...rebekah Vardy’s account.”

Shut. The. Front. Door. Coleen Rooney, wife of former England footballer Wayne, claimed last week to have caught fellow WAG Rebekah Vardy in an elaborate sting, accusing her of leaking stories from her private Instagram account to the press.

“Over the years various people have had access to my Insta & just this week I found I was following people I didn’t know and have never followed myself. I’m so upset you have chosen to do this, especially when I’m heavily pregnant…i’m disgusted that I’m even having to deny this.”

Oh. Em. Gee. In a classic “not me guv” denial, Rebekah, wife of footballer Jamie Vardy, responded to the bombshell accusation by saying lots of people had access to her account.

“Coleen Mary Rooney (née Mcloughlin; born April 3, 1986) is an English television personality, affectionately known as Wagatha Christie.”

Wikipedia’s page about Coleen Rooney was immediately updated to reflect her new status as an amateur detective.

“We’re going to have to make a documentary about this, aren’t we?”

Netflix’s official Twitter account couldn’t resist. Also, yes please.

“There has been finger pointing, there has been blame shifting, and there has been denials. But enough about Coleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy.”

Even International Trade Secretary Liz Truss used the opportunity to distract everyone from Brexit for a moment.

“Glad they’ve brought back Footballers’ Wives. And what an opening episode.”

Match of the Day host Gary Lineker joined thousands of other gleeful social media onlookers in looking out the popcorn.
