Liam’s Italian job helps Ewan in Dingwall
Celtic starlet Ewan Henderson has revealed he taps into his Serie A-playing brother Liam’s knowledge in a bid to improve his game during his loan spell at Ross County.
The Scotland Under- 21 midfielder helped Scot Gemmill’s side reach the top of their group after a well- earned goalless draw in the Czech Republic.
Henderson had his breakthrough season at Parkhead last term, and started four games before playing in the Champions League qualifier against FK Sarajevo this season.
Neil Lennon decided it would be better for Henderson’s career if he got more game time, so he headed north to Dingwall on a season-long loan.
Older brother Liam was at Celtic, too, and had successful loan spells at Hibs and Rosenborg before making the surprise switch to Italy with Bari.
From there, he earned a move to Serie A with Verona, and the 23- yearold became the first Scot to play in Italian football’s top flight since Graeme Souness with Sampdoria in 1986.
Henderson’s 19- year- old sibling revealed: “I talk to Liam all the time. He loves it over there.
“He’s been doing unbelievably well in Serie A, and I am just so proud of him.
“He learns every day on the pitch, but off it he is learning a lot too.
“He’s taking Italian lessons and his language skills have improved a lot since he first went over. I am just buzzing for him.
“I got over to see him during the last international break. It was great to see the place, although I never got to see a game.
“Obviously, there are not many boys from Scotland who have gone over and done what he’s done.
“My brother has shown it’s possible for Scottish players to go over and try things like that. It’s amazing.
“He’s always watching me, too, and giving me advice on how to help my game. He’s been a massive help to my career.
“Liam’s miles better than me! Yes, he’s a few years older, but I’ll never be as good as him.
“My family come up to see me at Ross County, then they go across to Italy to see Liam, so that’s a lot of travelling.
“But they’re really proud of us.”
