Widower caught up in cruise wrangle

THE GREAT OUTDOORS

-

Peter Shackleton was delighted with a new gas cooker he bought from Currys – then he noticed he was paying for a cover plan that he couldn’t remember agreeing to.

The 89-year-old widower from Kelty, Fife, bought the device over the phone from Currys at Halbeath Retail Park in Dunfermline in June.

Peter was left baffled when he noticed payments for a cover plan being taken from his account.

Peter was then frustrated when he couldn’t get to the bottom of the issue after getting in touch with Currys.

We contacted the retail giant on his behalf and, after investigating, the company quickly swung into action and issued a refund of £120.

Currys PC World said: “Our customer service team spoke with Mr Shackleton to discuss the details of the inquiries with him.

“We established that the payment he was querying was for the cover of another product he had purchased from us, a washing machine.

“Mr Shackleton confirmed with us he was aware of this cover, but he said he believed he had cancelled this two years ago.

“Although we do not have any record of this request, we have agreed to refund the last two years’ annual payments of £120 on this occasion as a gesture of goodwill, which the customer is happy with.”

Peter was thrilled with the result and thanked Raw Deal for helping to get a refund on the cover from the retail giant.

He said: “I am pleased to report that Curry’s have agreed to refund the monies this week.

“You have saved me from having a few sleepless nights for which I offer you my sincere thanks.”
