Holt insists his men must play for 90 minutes

LIVINGSTON manager Gary Holt is getting sick and tired of hard luck stories involving his side.

Having blown a two-goal lead against Hibs in midweek to concede a last gasp leveller at Easter Road, Livingston endured more late heartache at Fir Park as Allan Campbell struck to seal a 2- 1 win for Motherwell.

Holt’s injury- hit side impressed at Fir Park and looked on course for a point after sub Steven Lawless’s penalty cancelled out Christopher Long’s second half opener.

But with just seven minutes remaining Campbell pounced inside the penalty area to seal the win.

And Holt insists his side need to be more savvy to see out the game and earn at least a point.

Holt said: “It’s a kick in the teeth and it’s something we’ve spoken about. I can’t continue to come in after games and say, ‘unlucky’.

“I thought for a side which was down to the bare bones, I thought to a man we were excellent at times.

“I told them not to panic when Motherwell had possession as we would get it back and frustrate them.

“When we had it back we had to hit them and we did that at times.

“But we need to be more professional. We have to be savvy to see games out and we didn’t do that.

“At the end of the day we would have taken a point and the disappointing thing is our keeper didn’t have much to do.“Their keeper had more saves to make and we still lost the game.

“We can’t keep praising a defeat. To a man there was effort and desire and I can’t fault them.

“I would rather tell them we were garbage and rubbish but won the game.”

Livingston played well but failed to take their chances when they were on top. And Holt knows they need to be more clinical after passing up good opportunities.

He said :“It’ s about taking opportunities when they come, as unlucky doesn’t keep you in this league and doesn’t get you anything. Being ultra professional does.”

“We are still new at this level and need to do the nitty gritty.”
