Aird’s double as Cove continue to lead league

Cove Rangers were decisive winners of this top-of-the-table clash.

Cove went close in the second minute when Blair Yule shot just wide.

Not long after, a slack pass was intercepte­d by Declan Glass and his 20-yarder was brilliantl­y parried by home keeper Kevin Dabrowski.

On 15 minutes, Cowden took the lead. A pin-point Harvey Swann cross was perfect for skipper David Cox and his sixyard header beat Stuart Mckenzie.

On 31 minutes, the visitors levelled when Mitch Megginson squeezed the ball home on the line after a low cross was not cleared.

Five minutes later, a mistake by the home side’s Robbie Buchanan allowed Fraser Aird to convert from seven yards after a corner.

Cove needed a third goal and it came in 77 minutes when Aird fired wide of Dabrowski from 16 yards.

Edinburgh grabbed the lead after 25 minutes when Marc Laird blasted home a superb right-foot drive.

City started the second half well with Paul Mcmanus having the ball in the net five minutes in, but was ruled offside,

The hosts battled on and substitute Emile Ngoy headed home the equaliser with six minutes remaining.

Home joy was short-lived with Handling restoring his side’s advantage just a minute later,with the same player adding a third from a late penalty.

Brechin didn’t give up Ngoy notched his second goal right at the death.

In their last league game at Ochilview, Stenhousem­uir conceded the first goal on the half-hour when two ex-warriors combined, with Salim Kouider-aissa heading home a Ciaran Summers corner.

The visitors extended their lead just after half-time when Calvin Mcgrory fired home.

There was to be no fightback by the home team and David Galt made sure of victory in the 71st minute when he dispatched the ball home from just inside the box.

Darryl Duffy had the ball in the net after only six minutes and, although the goal was disallowed for offside,

Duffy then fired home a perfectly legal opener early in the second half.

Jordan Mcgregor converted a Paul Willis corner to double Stirling’s lead before Sean Heaver’s calm finish condemned the under-pressure visitors to their fifth league defeat in a row.

Captain Brian Cameron scored City’s opening goal for the third game running with a firm strike from the edge of the box on three minutes.

Soon after, Cameron turned provider for Rabin Omar to net against his former club with a low drive.

A handball award allowed Shane Sutherland to make it 3-0 from the penalty spot, scoring for the sixth game running with his 19th of the campaign.

He missed the opportunit­y to add No. 20 from a second spot-kick on the hour, given for Steven Swinglehur­st’s challenge on Kane Hester, which earned the Annan defender a straight red card.

This time Sutherland’s kick was well saved by the diving Smith.

The Annan keeper was beaten by Omar’s 25-yard lob for No. 4.
