Fans’ chief wants Hearts to think big on new boss

Ahead of today’s Betfred League Cup semi-final against Rangers, Hearts fans’ chief, Steve Kilgour, has urged the club to think big in their search for a successor to Craig Levein.

A host of names have already been linked with the post since Levein paid the price for a dismal run of results.

Ex-jambos Steven Pressley and Neil Mccann, former Tynecastle coach Jack Ross, Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson and Manchester United legend Roy Keane are reported to be in the running.

But, following the example of Kilmarnock’s successful appointment of Steve Clarke in 2017, Kilgour believes someone of the calibre of former Everton and Manchester United manager David Moyes should be approached to try to break the Old Firm dominance.

The general secretary of the Federation of Hearts Supporters’ Clubs said: “I would urge the club not to go looking down the route of former players.

“Let’s get away from that. I would like somebody from outside Scotland who doesn’t have a fear of the Old Firm.

“That’s what Scottish football needs, somebody who is going to come in and challenge to Celtic and Rangers. Respect them, yes, but not fear them.

“I would aim big. There are lots of big names out there who are unemployed, the likes of David Moyes, for example.

“Who knows? If you don’t ask, you’ll never know. Who would have thought Kilmarnock would have got Steve Clarke?

“That’s the standard we should be going for.

“Guys who have managed in the Premier League in England could make a massive difference up here.”
