DAY OF SHOCKS IN TITLE RACE

PREMIERSHIP ROUND-UP

-

Knights suffered another dose of Super6 gloom as Heriot’s prevailed at The Greenyards.

The hosts had made a promising start, thanks to a touchdown by winger Joe Jenkins.

But a penalty try and a great effort from Jack Blain turned the tide in favour of the capital outfit.

Hooker Michael Liness followed up with No. 3 before Jason Baggot hit back for the home brigade.

But it was too little, too late and the visitors held out to become worthy victors.

Today, Watsonians welcome Boroughmuir, while Stirling County take on Ayrshire Bulls.

The Premiership title race was blown wide open in a day of seesaw action and surprises.

Championship favourites Marr were pipped on home turf by GHA, while contenders Currie plunged to defeat at the hands of Hawick at Mansfield Park.

In foul conditions at Troon, Marr had two late penalty chances to snatch the glory – only for the ball to drift wide of the target, leaving the visitors to celebrate their 17-15 win.

The first strike by Colin Sturgeon shaved the outside of the post and his luck was out again as he watched his stoppage-time effort being swept wide by the wind.

Tries by Logan Woolley and

Andrew Mitchell paved the way for Hawick’s 20-14 triumph over the Malleny Park men.

Ali Weir was also in excellent kicking form for the Borderers as he found the target when it mattered most.

Elsewhere, Selkirk kept their composure to sneak past Aberdeen GR 16-14 in the Granite City.

And the roller-coaster season of Glasgow Hawks took another downward lurch as they were on the wrong end of a 16-15 with JedForest at Balgray.

There was a terrific tussle between Edinburgh Accies and Musselburgh, who shared the spoils 28-all at Newfield.
