Fallon’s belief as she makes last-32

-

Fallon Sherrock insists she can win the World Darts Championship after she progressed to the last-32 after a 3-1 win over 11th seed Mensur Suljovic at Alexandra Palace last night.

The 25-year-old, who became the first woman to win a match at the tournament with a first-round win over Ted Evetts, missed only five doubles in a superb performance against the Austrian.

Sherrock won the first set before Suljovic levelled the match. But she hit back and landed a dart at the bullseye to surge into the last 32, where she will meet Chris Dobey.

When asked if she could win the tournament, Sherrock

(right) said: “Why not? I have won two games, I am just going to take each game as it comes but there is nothing to say that I can’t. I am going to try.

“I have just proved that we (women) can beat anyone. I have beaten two of the best players in the world. If that doesn’t show that women can play darts, I don’t know what does.”

Meanwhile, two-time World Champion Adrian Lewis came back from two sets down to overcome Spain’s Cristo Reyes.

Lewis narrowly missed double-12 for a nine-darter as he rallied back from the brink to move into the third round.

Ryan Searle’s 101.54 average became the highest of the tournament so far as he defeated Steve West by 3-0.

Devon darter Searle won every set 3-2 to book his place in the last 32, where he will take on Scotland’s two-time World Champion, Gary Anderson.

Seigo Asada completed a great escape to stun Keegan Brown, who won the first seven legs of their dramatic tie before falling to a tie-break defeat against the Japanese ace.

World cup semi-finalist Asada took the final set 4-2 with a match-winning 11-darter to set up a third-round meeting with Scot Peter Wright.

There were also wins for Simon Whitlock, Daryl Guney, Glen Durrant, and Dimitri van den Bergh.

As it’s almost 2020, the Black Cahill is one to tie now for the box to try out in the spring, when it’s brownie time again.

The hook is a size-12 Kamasan B175, and the tying thread is light Cahill Uni 8/0. The tail is black Chinese cock fibres and the body is the tying silk, ribbed with black Gutterman’s tinsel.

The head hackle is black Metz hen.

■ The fly pond at Coylton’s Waterfront Fishery has been fishing well of late, with the Black Rabbit being the top pattern. But the Bloodworm App, Blobs, Cormorants and Snakes are also working well.

Fishing on catch-and-release permits Jean Ferguson had 16, Allan Kerr (15), James Mckay (11) and David Flak took 10.

On the bait pond Christopher Dean Jnr took five for 10lb 2oz, while John Dean had three for 7lb 11oz and Christopher Dean Snr kept three for 6lb 14oz.

■ At the Swanswater Fishery, near Stirling, most of the fish last week were landed either from the island, or from the area behind the islands.

Danny Doherty caught five for 13lb 5oz and returned seven. Alan Stirling, (Bonnybridge) took for 12lb 12oz, Alan Johnston (Neilston) had four for 12lb 12oz and Alan Armstrong (Dollar) kept three for 9lb.
