Megginson shows way with a dandy double

Cove returned from Glasgow with three points and their two-point lead at the top intact.

Cove opened when Mitch Megginson was released on the right and he drilled home a low shot.

Within 90 seconds, Cove scored again when Willie Muir pushed out a shot from Fraser Fyvie and Jamie Masson slammed the ball into the net.

Half-time sub Calvin Mcgrory made an impact for the hosts on 50 minutes with a piercing cross that allowed Salim Kouider-aissa to score with a header..

In time added, Megginson netted No. 3 with another solo effort.

Rovers made the breakthrou­gh after four minutes. Ouzy See was fouled in the box by Chris Smith and Albion skipper Declan Byrne made no mistake with the spot-kick.

There looked to be no way back when See made it 3-0 after 61 minutes after Byrne had carved out the opening.

Stenny levelled as Connor Mcbride ran through to shoot home from 12 yards.

The Fifers were back in front after good approach play saw Harvey Swann fire home a fierce 18-yard left-foot shot.

In 82 minutes, the Blues tied up the points when Jordan Allan headed home Swann’s cross.

Stirling almost took the lead in the first half when Dylan Mackin hit the post with a header, but the Binos failed to trouble visiting trialist keeper Joshua Rae often enough.

City striker Blair Henderson should have scored with a header before the break.

The second half produced little goalmouth action until the match entered added time – and the visitors’ late pressure was rewarded when a ball into the box broke kindly for Allan Smith and the former Peterhead midfielder lashed a low shot beyond Cammy Binnie.
