Dundee Contemporary Arts

It once transformed the cultural face of Dundee and it is often worth travelling to from the central belt if you’re interested in cutting-edge contemporary art. Well used, well loved! dca.org.uk (01382) 432000
Moray Art Centre

Kirkcudbright Galleries
The galleries, over four floors, opened in the Old Town Hall on St Mary Street to tell the story, and focus attention on, the colony of artists who settled and worked in south-west Scotland’s most beguiling town. Though Hornel and Jessie M King were leading lights, there were many others and the group had a national impact. The Kirkcudbright story is told on the ground floor, with temporary exhibitions above. This is well worth a visit. kirkcudbrightgalleries.org.uk (01557) 331276
Hospitalfield Arbroath
An arts centre in a historic (Arts & Crafts) house, 400 metres from the A92, south of the centre (at Mcdonald’s), with artists in residence. The collection and interiors are fascinating and is the legacy of artist and collector Patrick Allan-fraser (1812-1890). Only open Wednesday 2-5pm. The café in the walled garden is open Wednesday and Saturday 11am-4pm. Hospitalfield curated Scotland’s “pavilion” at the Venice Biennale 2015. hospitalfield.org.uk (01241) 656124
