JUNIOR ROUND-UP

-

■ Honours were shared in a top-of-the-table clash, with BROUGHTY ATHLETIC and CARNOUSTIE fighting out a 2-2 draw to keep the Gowfers eight points clear at the top. Bryan Duell converted a penalty in 32 minutes to give the Fed the lead, but the Gowfers hit back through Ryan Dignan five minutes later, then nosed ahead through Pat Martin in 61 minutes. But the hosts weren’t to be denied and Jamie Reid slotted home the equaliser in 66 minutes.

■ LOCHEE UNITED had a comfortable 3-0 win over DOWNFIELD and, although they trail leaders Carnoustie by 11 points, they do have three games in hand. Kevin Milne got the opener on seven minutes, then Bryan Deasley gave them breathing space when he doubled their lead just before the break. The Spiders tried hard to get back in the game, but Greg Kirk killed them off with Lochee’s third in 63 minutes.

■ TAYPORT moved four points clear of the bottom of the table after thumping KIRRIE THISTLE 5-0. The Fifers opened the scoring after half-an-hour when Greg Whyte bent a free-kick into the roof of the Kirrie net. Then, six minutes later, Dayle Robertson was left with a tap-in from a Lyall Shaw cutback. The pair combined again in 44 minutes for Robertson’s second of the day. Shaw was causing havoc in the Kirrie defence and he set up Jamie Gill to make it 4-0 on the half-time whistle. Then, for the second week running, Robertson went on to complete his hat-trick in 75 minutes from yet another Shaw cross.

■ STONEYBURN maintained their lead at the top of the South Premier League with a comfortable 5-1 win over BO’NESS. They were 4-0 up at the interval thanks to strikes from Stephen Mckay, Barry Craig, Nathan Donnelly Kay and Ryan Robertson. Robertson made it 5-0 after the break before Bo’ness grabbed a consolation.

■ West Region action saw BENBURB beat visitors KIRKINTILLOCH ROB ROY 2-0, with James Marks opening the scoring on 52 minutes and Ciaran Mulcahy adding a long distance second with 10 minutes to go.
