Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists United’s current attacking trio have the potential to emulate one of the great combinations from his own playing era at Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood are already outshooting Liverpool’s fabled front three this season heading into today’s showdown at Old Trafford

While Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have hit the net 38 times in total in this campaign, their United counterparts have summoned one goal more, despite sitting 27 points adrift in the Premier League table.

Solskjaer said: “The front three that Liverpool have got have been playing together for seasons, and you can see

home by Greg Buchan on 21 minutes, then another Cowie set-piece saw Ross Willox head a third. Willox added a fourth before the break. A superb solo goal from Paul Young and one from sub Gary Harris completed the rout.

KEITH looked the more likely at NAIRN COUNTY, but it was the home side who went in front at the break. With a minute of the half left, Cohen Ramsay’s lay-off found Scott Davidson and he kept a cool head to slot the ball past Greg Simpson. County doubled their lead in 58 minutes when Davidson stroked home a Kenny Mckenzie pass following a good run by the defender. The visitors reduced the deficit three minutes later. A Macaskill cross from the right found Keith who sent a powerful header past Maclean from about six yards.

There was no more scoring, with the hosts claiming the points with a 2-1 win.

BRORA RANGERS came away from ROTHES with full points after a solitary goal victory. The breakthrough came inside the first five minutes with Macrae alive to the chance to knock the ball past Ewen Macdonald.

Visitors FORRES MECHANICS eased to a 2-0 victory over an off-the-boil WICK ACADEMY, thanks to goals from Declan Hughes and Robbie Duncanson. The game was played at a frantic early pace, but Forres possessed the superior threat going forward and grabbed control of proceedings with two quickfire goals. Hughes swept home on the half-hour mark, before Duncanson doubled the lead five minutes later with a neat finish inside the box. Academy tried valiantly to find a way back into the game, but the closest they came to pulling one back was when Davie Allan fired wide after being picked out by Colin Macrae.

■ GALA FAIRYDEAN ROVERS gave Lowland League leaders KELTY HEARTS a run for their money, but the Maroon Machine came away from Netherdale with three points after a 2-1 win. Kelty were a goal down after 34 minutes when Danny Galbraith put the Fairies ahead, but, six minutes into the second half, Nathan

Austin bagged his 31st goal of the campaign to level. In the 63rd minute, Stephen Husband hit the winner for Kelty.

GRETNA 2008 got a 1-1 draw at home to BERWICK RANGERS. After a goalless first 45 minutes, the Wee Gers went a goal up on 69 minutes when Hamish Thomson headed home on his debut. On 70 minutes, Gretna were level when Dean Watson hit the net with a shot from the edge of the box.

SPARTANS and STIRLING UNI fought out a goalless draw at Forthbank on a heavy pitch.

In the Southern Counties Challenge Cup, DALBEATTIE STAR went through to the fourth round with a 1-0 win over CALEDONIAN BRAVES.
