My heart goes out to quarantine victims

£25 STAR LETTER

-

I read the story in The Sunday Post of Chinese people suspected of having the coronavirus being taken to quarantine camps.

I found this so shocking. I myself am Chinese and was so very sad to see this.

For the Chinese authority to do this to their own people, treating them like animals, is horrifying. They showed no sympathy or comfort. My heart goes out to these unfortunate people and their families.

Real deal

They may be fictional, but all The Sunday Post’s cartoon characters have the ring of truth.

I nearly cheered out loud when Daphne Broon gave Eckie Dow the bum’s rush. The lass deserves so much better. Mary Cook, via email

A little help

I read with delight about the lovely couple who had a little boy after the woman was told she could never have a child. Despite her MND, she now has a son, whom you can see is her world.

It would be wonderful if the powers that be could see to it that this family get a house with a garden so they can enjoy all the happy times having a baby brings.

Century man

My neighbour reached the grand age of 100 on Thursday. William (Bill) Patrick is one of the loveliest men anyone could wish to meet.

He’s been a keen Sunday Post reader for many, many years and looks forward to reading it each week, particularly the sports supplement. Stirling Albion and Rangers are of special interest.

On the money

What a great article by Donald Macleod about the money wasted by governments on vanity projects. He says what people think. More power to his elbow. John Stoyles, email

Climate woes

In response to last week’s star letter on offsetting

greenhouse gases created by flying…flying is the most polluting form of transport, and climate science recommends we reduce such emissions.

As for political point regarding the “interference to society” posed by Marxists and the chattering classes, this is best answered by two quotes from a well-known scientist. As a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, she warned of “the prospect of irretrievable damage to the atmosphere, to the oceans, to earth itself”. She then advised “it is no good squabbling over who is responsible or who should pay. We shall only succeed in dealing with the problems through a vast international, co-operative effort”. The name of this scientist was Margaret Thatcher. Iain Macdonald, Dundee

Idiotic insult

Bridget Brian sneered about Scotsmen being “dour and humourless”.

Was she hoping Scottish readers would respond with equally idiotic insults about English people?

Sorry to disappoint but most of us have more interesting things to think about than that pathetic nonsense. Rob Johnston, Aberdeenshire

Fits the bill

Judy Murray was on target in her comments about health and fitness. While governments have done a lot to make people aware of the dangers of smoking, the use of drugs and excess alcohol, more emphasis needs to be placed on daily exercise, sport and general fitness. D Robertson, Troon
