Wilder: Hendo should make England debut

-

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder watched Dean Henderson excel against Norwich then proclaimed he expects the goalkeeper to make his England bow later this month.

Henderson, on loan at Bramall Lane from Manchester United, has impressed in his first Premier League campaign and there have been calls for him to get his chance at international level.

The 22-yearold underlined his credentials again with a world- class piece of goalkeeping late in the game against Norwich to preserve his side’s 1- 0 lead. Called into action for the first time with 11 minutes remaining, Henderson produced a superb triple save.

Emi Buendia’s corner was met with a thumping header by Ben Godfrey but, under pressure from Mario Vrancic sliding in, Henderson got down by his post to make the save, before reacting to keep out Vrancic’s effort.

The rebound fell to Jo sip Dr mi ca nd he looked certain to equalise, but Henderson was there again with lightening fast reactions.

“He’s not had a great deal to do and then he’s made some important saves, but that’s what the best ones do. Dean is one of the best,” said the Blades boss.

“He has had a fantastic season and he has a big 10 games to play and hopefully some more cup games and I would be very surprised if he is not named in the upcoming England squad.”

Manager Graham Potter insisted Brighton must be humble enough to accept their point at Wolves.

The Seagulls moved two points clear of the bottom three after a gutsy 0-0 draw at Molineux.

It was their first clean sheet since December – the last time they won a game against Bournemouth.

Potter said: “We deserved the point. It’s a point at a team chasing the top six and we have to be humble enough to accept that as well.

“They had one chance at the end, but it was a bit of a tactical battle. ( Adama) Traore coming on made things even more challenging but overall we did well.”

Despite missing the chance to crack the top four, Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo denied it was on his mind.

“We didn’t perform well or like we wanted to,” he said.

Roy Hodgson insisted he has never felt healthier and is not fearful over the threat of coronavirus after Crystal Palace celebrated his new oneyear contract with victory over Watford to virtually guarantee survival.

Jordan Ayew grabbed the only goal of a scrappy encounter at Selhurst Park to make it three consecutive wins for the Eagles.

One contingency reportedly being considered is banning over- 70s from attending games, but the Palace boss said: “I will worry about that when the time comes. Certainly I have never felt healthier.”
