Going out Restaurant of the week

Chiquito, Fountain Park, Edinburgh

-

Location

Situated in one of the largest entertainment hubs on the outskirts of the city, its about a 10-minute walk from Haymarket railway station and easily accessible by car – there’s even free parking for diners. With a cinema, 10-pin bowling and a kids’ soft play nearby, it’s great for making a day of it.

First Impressions

Bursting with colour, from the mosaic tables to the brightly painted plates on the walls, Chiquito is as visually stunning as it is a great place to eat. The lizard statues dotted around the eaterie, trees with twinkling lights and adorned with Mexican hats as well as the star pendant lighting are all lovely touches.

Service

We’re greeted by a smiling waiter, who takes our order and delivers the food and drinks promptly. The staff are friendly, attentive and polite.

Menu

From mild to wild, there’s a great selection of Mexican and Tex Mex on the menu, so whether you’re in the mood for filling fajitas, bursting burritos or tasty tacos, you’re certain to find a dish to suit. There’s also bean stews and burgers, steak, and surf and turf – and lots of veggie, vegan and gluten-free options.

Taste

The chicken fajitas, served sizzling and with all the fillings on the side, were fantastic, and the pulled pork chimichanga bursting with flavour. The kids settled for simple chicken nuggets and chips, served with a side of veggie sticks – but devoured every last bite.

Ambience

Cosy and relaxed. We were seated at a big corner booth, which gave the little diners plenty of room to move around, but also meant they could be contained!

Price

At just over £70 for two adults and two children for two courses each and drinks, the bill was reasonable.

Toilets

Clean – and colourful.
