Holding back the years: Simply follow these skincare secrets

- As told to Tracey Bryce

It’s a fact of life... as we age, so do our bodies. From grey hair to wrinkles, there will come a time when those added years, along with sun exposure, pollution, stress and diet will start to show, especially on our skin.

Protect

“We can slow down skin ageing by making certain lifestyle changes,” said Avon scientist Jolanta Idkowiak-baldys.

“Sun protection, such as a day moisturiser with SPF 25 or higher can make a big difference by providing a foundation of skincare to slow down signs of ageing.

“In addition, antioxidants which can be found in products such as the Avon Anew Vitamin C serum help decrease signs of ageing.”

Hydrate

There is little we can do about wrinkles once they are actually here, so it’s important to take the best care of our skin we possibly can.

“We can improve the appearance of our fine lines by daily skin hydration,” Jolanta added.

“And choosing products which contain ingredients such as glycolic acid, retinol or protinol, which is designed to boost collagen levels to give skin a plumper, youthful look and feel.”

Resurface

“Gentle resurfacing treatments can also increase renewal to minimise the appearance of wrinkles,” Jolanta said.

“The most effective treatment is broad spectrum moisturising sun protection, which prevents future damage and can also decrease existing signs of ageing over time.

“An anti-ageing skin routine should include a deeply hydrating day cream with UVA/ UVB SPF and an effective night treatment for your needs.

“The best treatment will accelerate skin renewal that slows down with aging and should contain antioxidant ingredients to decrease free radical formation, or collagen and hyaluronic acid to increase the production of skin’s building blocks.”

Restoration

Jolanta recommends a night t treatment t t containing retinol or Protino ol, which can be found in Avon’s new Skin Reset Plumping Shots and has been clinically proven to restore collagen found in healthy skin and help to restore seven years of collagen loss in just seven days.

“Avon scientists have also recently discovered that CBD can work as an anti-ageing ingredient when included in topical skincare,” she said.

“A new product containing an effective concentration of pure CBD is coming soon, but in the meantime the new Cannabis Sativa Oil Collection features a cleanser, day cream and hand and body balm made with 100% natural ingredients.

“The products utilise cannabis sativa oil, another soothing and calming ingredient from the powerhouse cannabis plant.”
