It’s no mystery why William Shatner has enjoyed such a long and successful career. For more than 50 years he’s been on our screens as one of the most best-known actors in the world.
But even after more than five decades since he first pulled on a Starfleet uniform as Captain James T. Kirk, William is still boldly going at the age of 89.
The thought of him not working is something William laughed off on our wee Zoom interview last week.
“Retire? To what? I’m in a frenzy of creativity right now,” he told me.
“I’ve been selling shows via Zoom and thinking of ideas.
“I’m so healthy with my wife’s great cooking, not eating bread and the exercise I’m doing.
“I just feel badly for people who are locked up and can’t perfect themselves. All I can say is – try to get more perfect!”
Speaking of which, William is starring in a brilliant new TV show, called The Unxplained.
The series is on
The History Channel,
Tuesdays at 9pm and examines gripping mysteries from around the world.
That includes the Mystery of Oak Island. Treasure hunters have flocked to the island in Nova Scotia to discover what lies at the bottom of a very mysterious pit.
William went to the island to see for himself.
“There are things people find there that lead people to believe there is a mystery to Oak Island that is unexplained,” he said.
“Did pirates bury their treasure there? There’s a hole there that’s 90ft deep and they kept finding obstacles that could only be man-made.
“They made it to the final obstacle, which they removed – and the hole immediately flooded.
“Who had that technology? On the island they have heavy digging machinery, they’re digging now.
“Did the Knights Templar bury their treasure there? Was the American Revolution financed by the treasure of Oak Island?
“These are the questions we asked which lead us to the unexplained.
“But also what’s unexplained are the people who go there. They go there to discover treasure – but they haven’t!”
William believes he’s also solved another mystery over the past few of months of lockdown.
He has long been an environmental activist – well, he’s used to saving planets as Captain of the USS Enterprise.
“Try and explain this virus!” he added. “people knew something was coming this way.
“I think this is a rehearsal for the global warming catastrophe that will happen in the next 50 years if we’re not totally serious about stopping it.
“And part of the reason I say that is I read this morning that there’s 50% less carbon in the air as a result of this lockdown, and the air hasn’t been this clear since the Second World War.
“We’re burying our heads in the sand to avoid coming to grips with the catastrophic effect of global warming.”
