stand and therefore be four metres apart.

“Mothballing, though, would be absolutely disastrous for Peterhead, and others I would think.”

■ St Mirren are battling with Motherwell to sign former Dundee midfielder Mark O’hara.

The 24- year- old spent most of last season on loan at Fir Park from Peterborough United.

O’hara indicated he was keen to join The Steelmen on a permanent basis, but has been unable to agree terms with the club

He even said: “Playing in Europe for Motherwell would be a dream come true.”

However, St Mirren have now agreed to pay the £ 50,000 fee that Peterborough want for the player.

Posh director of football Barry Fry said: “I spoke to Motherwell’s head of recruitment, Martin Foyle, on Friday and he said he was determined to get Mark signed up.

“I told him to hurry up as I’d now agreed a fee with St Mirren for the player.

“I have no idea why Mark hasn’t signed for Motherwell already.

“Martin told me the player’s agent had turned down a threeyear contract even though they’ve qualified for Europe, but then his agent has been difficult to deal with in the past.”

■ Former Dundee director Steve Martin last night pleaded with their fans to hand over £ 40,000 to the cash-stricken club.

Martin made the appeal to Dundee Football Club Supporters Society ( DFCSS) in the wake of managing director John Nelm’s revelations that the Dark Blues had lost a staggering £500,000 over the past three months.

Nelms warned “tough choices” lie ahead as they consider costcutting measures to save the Dens Park club’s future.

Now Martin, who resigned from the board last year, is urging the fans’ group to give the club their five-figure sum.

Martin said: “I would appeal with the DFCSS to give this money to the club.

“They’ve always said it’s rainy day money. So now is the time to hand it over before it gets worse.

“In these difficult times, it could make a lot of difference in the short-term.

“I’m concerned for all the Scottish clubs right now, but first and foremost my main worry is Dundee.”
