Kyle predicts Premiership will be best-ever

Optimism is in short supply in Scottish football right now.

But St Mirren midfielder, Kyle Mcallister, insists that brassed-off supporters will soon be raving about the new, improved standards in the Premiership.

Indeed, he’s convinced that 2020/21 will be the best season yet for Scotland’s elite division.

He said: “When we reported back, at first it was mainly just running.

“But then we got involved with drills, and in the past weeks week were finally able to have full contact training.

“The fun part – playing games – is back.

“After having been off for such a long time, everyone was even enjoying the running, though.

“Of course, during the lockdown we’d all been given schedules to follow by the club, so it’s possible we’ve become even fitter than before by not playing.

“Everyone is looking sharp, and this six-week pre-season training regime will be the longest we’ve ever had.

“I thought that some of the football we played this year was brilliant.

“I that once we start playing again, this will probably be the best you’ll ever see from most teams.

“We’ve all had so long to prepare for the new season, it should be great.

“Every player has missed playing games, and no-one has any excuses for not being at their best once we get going.”

Mcallister’s positivity is all the more remarkable, given that he was sidelined for two years by a back injury following his £225,000 move to Derby County in 2017.

Last season he helped Saints avoid relegation but played in only 18 of their 38 games.

“It was my back,” he disclosed. “I struggled for most of the year with it, taking injections which didn’t really help.

“Then we got a new physio, who noticed that my back wasn’t moving when the rest of me was. Now it’s been fixed .

“I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in.

“I feel great but – after two brutal years on a personal level – I also feel that I still have a point to prove.”
