New Steelman Nathan

- By Brian Fowlie sport@sundaypost.com

Nathan Mcginley is looking forward to sampling European football with Motherwell.

But the defender already has experience of pitting his wits against Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard on the Continent.

The 23- year- old came up against Scotland’s Player of the Year when he played for Middlesbrough in the Youth Champions League.

He’ll have to settle for the Europa League with the Steelmen, although the chance of facing stars like Edouard in the Premiership encouraged him to make the move to Scotland.

Mcginley said: “We won the Under-18 league at Middlesbrough, and that got us into the Champions League.

“We beat Reims, Torino and Dynamo Kiev before meeting PSG in the quarter-final.

“The game took place at their training ground because their big team had a tie that night.

“We got knocked out after losing 1-0. But it was a great experience.

“In England, we were playing at The Riverside Stadium.

“Usually we were playing in the main stadiums and in Italy the fans were crazy.

“As a young lad, it’s a great experience because you learn a lot.

“There were a few thousand at the home legs. But in Italy and France, there was quite a few more, maybe 10,000.

“We didn’t swap shirts in the European games but I got a Champions League ball,
