Here’s hoping for a ‘glorious’ Goodwood finale

- By Reg Moore sport@sundaypost.com

Goodwood will use Saturday’s final day of their festival as a pilot, welcoming approximately 4,000 members to the track, racing’s first spectators in 18 weeks.

All involved will hope it proves a “glorious” finale to the five- day spectacular.

Earlier in the week, Ger Lyons’ double Group 1 winner, Siskin, possesses outstanding credentials for Wednesday’s Sussex Stakes over Goodwood’s mile.

A winner of the Irish 2000 Guineas on his only start as a three- year- old, Siskin had already scored in the Phoenix Stakes at two.

Now he tackles a race won twice in the same colours by Khalid Abdullah’s Frankel, and he will have to improve again to emulate him.

But the son of First Defence is unbeaten in five starts, and his win in the Phoenix came after 10 months off.

Jockey Colin Keane has confirmed that he will take the ride, despite his visit to the Glorious fixture meaning two weeks’ quarantine at home.

It’s hard to oppose Stradivarius on Tuesday, as he chases a historic fourth- successive Goodwood Cup, after clinching three Ascot Gold cups.

Frankie Dettori’s champion stayer will have Irish Derby winner Santiago representing Aidan O’brien, who won this three times with Yeats.

Half- an- hour earlier, David Elsworth’s Sir Dancealot bids for a third-straight Lennox Stakes, a Group 2 which suits the six-year-old perfectly.

Gerald Mosse comes from France to ride as usual, and he warmed up with an eye-catching run in the July Cup over an inadequate six furlongs.
