Rosenthal urges the Hoops to hurry up if they wantweissman
Israeli legend, Ronny Rosenthal, is excited by the prospect of Celtic target, Shon Weissman, being unleashed against Scotland on Friday night.
And the former Liverpool and Spurs striker reckons the Parkhead side need to hurry up if they are going to snap up his compatriot.
The Hoops have been linked with a move for Weissman after he scored 30 goals in his first season with Wolfsberger in the Austrian league.
Real Valladolid and Leeds United have also been credited with an interest in the 24-yearold, and Rosenthal reckons whoever lands him will be getting a real talent.
He said: “I have known Shon from a very young age because I have been working as a football scout for a long time now.
“He has surprised a lot of people, myself included.
“In Israel, he didn’t score that many goals. But it has been really helpful for him to change countries and go to play in Austria.
“He’s now full of confidence, and I’m sure he will move again as he has done what it takes to justify a transfer.
“It is really encouraging for Israel to have another striker that has proved himself at club level, and I hope he will get the chance to play against Scotland.
“I heard all those stories about Celtic looking to sign Weissman this summer. It is natural that they would want to sign him, as he is now a proven goalscorer.
“But if there is a time to sign him, it would be now before it is too late.
“I watched a lot of the games he played in, and some of the goals he scored he took fantastically well.
“Celtic should certainly be in for him if they are still looking for another striker, but they might not want to leave it for too long.”
Rosenthal was part of the last Liverpool team to win the league title before this year when he signed for Kenny Dalglish in March, 1990, after being turned down by Hibs.
He remains a big fan of the Anfield club, and has been impressed by Scotland captain, Andy Robertson’s growing influence on proceedings.
Rosenthal, now 56 and running a football consultancy business in London, added: “I first became aware of Andy when he was at Hull City.
“I saw him a few times there, and really liked him.
“He was in my scouting data from the early days, and I thought he would get a big club. I was not wrong!
“He’s a complete player, who has everything you need from a full-back.
“He is dynamic, good defending one versus one, he can create things but also defend well.
“Israel will know all about him and what he can do, so we need to be aware of that.”
