Bairn Morrison slides in to peg Cove back

-

FALKIRK 1 COVE R 0

Former Bairns boss Paul Hartley endured a frustrating return to the Falkirk Stadium as Cove lost their 100% League 1 record in a top-of-the-table clash.

Callumn Morrison’s sliding second-half winner on 48 minutes made all the difference as secondplaced Falkirk closed to within a single point of the leaders.

Morrison had an earlier effort disallowed for offside during a frantic opening 45 minutes, which saw Blair Alston and Conor Sammon go close for the home team, while Adam Livingstone and Fraser Fyvie threatened for the visitors.

The Bairns pushed hard, with Sammon, Charlie Telfer and Morrison all having chances and Anron Dowds striking woodwork.

CLYDE 3 MONTROSE 2

David Goodwillie took advantage of hesitancy in the Montrose defence on eight minutes to take the ball around Aaron Lennox before sliding it over the line.

Montrose levelled quickly when Russell Mclean turned and shot into the far corner after Cammy F Ballantyne had lashed a shot against the post.

Clyde retook the lead just before the hour when Kris Syvertsen released Ally Love and his cross was headed home by Goodwillie.

The Gable Endies levelled on 69 minutes when Chris Mochrie worked his way to the edge of the box and curled a shot home.

Goodwillie won the day with 11 minutes remaining when Ross Cunningham rolled a pass to him and he sent a whipped effort flashing high past Lennox for his hat-trick.

FORFAR 1 AIRDRIEONIANS 3

The visitors dominated the early stages and deservedly took the lead after only six minutes. A stunning one-touch move involving four Airdrie attackers was rifled low past Marc Mccallum by Thomas Robert, son of former Newcastle, PSG and France winger Laurent, from just inside the box.

Their second goal came in harsh circumstances in the 20th minute when a bouncing ball rolled up off Gary Irvine’s foot and on to his arm. Referee Grant Irvine pointed to the spot and Dale Carrick made no mistake in firing home his fifth of the season.

Less than a minute later, Forfar pulled one back. Bobby Barr did brilliantly to jink inside and fire Forfar’s first shot of the game on to the underside of the crossbar. Chris Antoniazzi was left the task of heading in the rebound.

Airdrie recovered quickly from this setback and their two-goal lead was restored in the 27th minute, with Kyle Connell dancing past a pair of Forfar defenders before rolling a classy finish into the back of Mccallum’s net.

Forfar looked a completely different side in the second half, but were unable to carve out any clear-cut chances.

PARTICK TH 2 EAST FIFE 0

Thistle threatened early when Mouhamed Niang’s header was parried by Jordan Hart and Ross Docherty stabbed the rebound inches wide.

But the opener came shortly after on 17 minutes when Brian Graham netted from the spot following a foul on Connor Murray.

Joe Cardle and James Penrice went close to doubling the Jags’ advantage, while Graham sent a header narrowly wide.

The visitors rallied for a spell on the restart, but were unable to pose genuine problems for home keeper Kieran Wright.

Instead, Thistle almost notched a second when Penrice squared for Cardle and his fierce shot rebounded from a post.

The clincher came with 12 minutes to go when Graham received a pass from Darren Brownlie and cleverly lifted the ball over Hart.

PETERHEAD 1 DUMBARTON 0

Peterhead got off to the perfect start as they went in front inside five minutes. Good link-up between Ben Armour and Andrew Mccarthy saw Armour run into the box. His initial attempt was blocked, but he smashed home the loose ball.

It was the visitors who had the better of the first-half goal attempts. Ross Forbes had two free-kicks saved by Joshua Rae in the home goal and Ryan Mcgeever had a header whistle just over the bar.

The hosts had far more control over the game in the second period. Steven Boyd passed up a great chance to double their lead, while Derek Lyle and Lyall Cameron both missed decent chances.

Denny Johnstone could’ve nicked a point late on for Sons, but his shot went wide.
