Christmas compromise is so confusing

£25 STAR LETTER

-

Does anyone know what the rules mean for Christmas? I did my best but still haven’t got a clue.

What’s the point of relaxing things for a day or two but then telling people they should stay at home anyway?

I haven’t spoken to a single person who thinks it’s worth relaxing the rules for Christmas to get another lockdown in January. I would love to see my family at Christmas, but even if I do, I wish we had just been told not to even think about it.

Stamp of success

I have often wondered why the Royal Mail doesn’t sell cut-price Christmas stamps.

If my memory serves me right, such a stamp used to be available about 60 years ago and was very successful. A lot of people my age will no doubt remember this Royal Mail tradition and it’s maybe worthwhile thinking of adopting it again for Christmas 2021.

With the amount of posted Christmas cards dropping at an alarming rate compared to years ago, it would be a wonderful way to help families keep in touch as well as increasing the sales of cards.

Lost best friends

I was sorry to hear Prince William and Kate’s cocker spaniel had died and can easily understand why they are upset.

Before I had a dog, I always thought it was a little ridiculous when owners talked about their pets like they were humans and grieved when they died.

Then our family got a little dog and, 12 years later, when she died, it broke our hearts. I was terribly upset and still am. Someone said it’s like losing a member of your family but one that you like and likes you back!

Out of her box

I don’t cook, but love watching Nigella Lawson’s cooking show.

She’s always smiling at her ingredients as if they’re her wee pals. It’s silly, but brilliant.

She would be locked up if she started doing that in a restaurant, but doing it on TV has made her a millionaire.

I couldn’t have been happier that she got her liquorice box out again. For us fans, it’s been far too long.

Sunday smiles

I love the Francis Gay column. I read it every week. It always brings a wee smile and sometimes a wee tear to my eyes.

Judy the great

Judy Murray is an inspiration with the courage and tenacity to make it to the top in a man’s world. She hasn’t turned into a pseudo man. She’s always a picture of health and vitality and undeniably womanly. Mary Cook, Gainsborough, Lincs

Road to ruin

All the new cycle lanes and road layouts that have been put in during lockdown are going to cause chaos when roads are busy with drivers who don’t know.
