Morrison vows the Bairns set

- By Brian Fowlie SPORT@SUNDAYPOST.COM

Falkirk need to play with no fear if they’re to have any chance of knocking Rangers out of the League Cup.

That’s an approach that suits right- winger Callumn Morrison down to the ground.

The former Hearts player has been on fire since joining Falkirk in the summer.

He joined the League One outfit on a one-year contract, but signed on for a further year earlier this month.

Having taken on Rangers before, the 21- year- old is relishing a chance to run at their full-backs.

He said: “We won’t sit back, we’ll give it a good go.

“You always want to play against Rangers, one of the biggest teams in Scotland.

“It’s a massive challenge for me, whoever plays at left- back. It might be Calvin Bassey or it might be Borna Barisic.

“It’s one to look forward to. I’m not going to fear the defence, I’m just going to play my own game.

“T he pressure is on Rangers.”

Morrison is clearly ambitious. He wants to play at a higher level and believes that can happen with the Bairns.

He said:“i believe in myself and my ambition is high.

“If you don’t have the ambition, I don’t know why you are playing.

“Hopefully we can win the league and get back up to the Championship. Then we can go from there.”

Falkirk co-manager Lee Miller is relieved that he’ll be in the dugout for today’s game against Steven Gerrard’s side.

He spent the start of this month self- isolating for 14 days after a positive Covid-19 test in his family.

It’s not an experience he’s in any hurry to repeat.

He said: “My fortnight selfisolating was really tough, just knowing the boys were in every day and I was stuck in the house had me tearing my hair out.

“I missed three games and that was difficult. I was watching them on TV in my living room.

“But there was a 15-second delay. so I was trying not to speak to David Mccracken every second of the game.

“It was a strange experience. “At times, I was on the phone and he was shouting, but I didn’t know what was happening because of the delay.

“I hadn’t seen the incident yet, I’d only see it 15 seconds later.

“Thankfully we got good results. But hopefully it never happens again.”

It would be a major surprise if Falkirk could inflict Rangers’ first defeat of the season, but Miller knows from a long playing career that nothing is impossible.

He said: “When I was at Livingston as a player, no one expected us to come up through the promotion play-offs, but we did because of our belief.

“Even when I was a Falkirk player and we beat Rangers 3-2 from being 2-0 down – that squad believed they were never beaten.

“We always went to the final whistle – we constantly created chances and put teams under pressure. That just comes from a real belief within the team.

“And we’ve got that now with these players, we have a really good team spirit at the club.

“Everyone from the top down is singing off the same hymn sheet, from board members to coaches, to players and fans.

“We’re all going in the same direction.

“I want the players to showcase their talent with no fear.”

One or two of Rangers morerecent recruits might feel slightly anxious about a trip to a lower league team.

It’s one of those games where there’s more to lose than to gain.

Miller added: “Rangers won’t want to be on the wrong end of a cup shock.

“They’re professional enough to go and take care of whoever’s in front of them.

“But we’re hoping they won’t be prepared mentally for the Falkirk Stadium on the astroturf, on a windy Sunday.

“We need a lot of factors to go in our favour. We need them to have an off day, with us at the top of our game.”
