Robinson riled by SFA’S points suspension
Seething Stephen Robinson hit out at SFA beaks after they plunged Motherwell further down the Premiership table – before a ball was even kicked at Tannadice.
Robinson’s men learned the bombshell news that six points had been taken away from them in the build-up to kick-off, pending an appeal by Kilmarnock and St Mirren over Covid rule breaches.
Now the Lanarkshire outfit, who had been awarded 3-0 wins against Killie and Saints, must await the outcome of the appeal which the SFA judicial panel will hear on January 14.
Robinson said: “The timing of the SFA’S announcement was well thought out wasn’t it? The day of a game? Maybe people could use their brains and announce it on a Monday.
“We haven’t shouted or screamed about points or not having points. We haven’t done anything wrong and are willing to play the games as we always were. We are not in control of that and have never shouted our mouths off.
“I have to be careful what I say, but the announcement on the day of a game isn’t ideal.
“Based on the performance it didn’t affect the players’ preparation. It was a brilliant performance and we had enough chances to win two or three games.
“It might have affected them but it never looked like it.
“I don’t think a lot of nous has been used in that announcement.”
Motherwell were denied their first league win in almost two months as United substitute Nicky Clark broke their hearts in injury-time.
And Robinson admitted better gamemanagement would have seen them end their wretched barren spell.
Robinson added: “Had we won 1-0 it would have been called the perfect performance. But when you are 1-0 up you are always open to the counter and we had so many chances to take the ball into the corner in the final few minutes.
“But we are trying shots from angles and we have a chance to clear the ball in the build up to their equaliser – so there’s a bit of frustration in that.
“Trevor Carson is top class and that was one of the big pluses today, to get him back from injury.”
