Nisbet tipped for Scotland call-up

For Euro 2020

- By Iain Collin SPORT@SUNDAYPOST.COM

Scott Allan is convinced that Hibs striker Kevin Nisbet can win a dream Scotland call- up in time for the Euro 2020 finals next summer.

Nisbet has impressed since making the step up from Dunfermline earlier this season.

The 23- year- old has proved just as deadly in front of goal in the top- flight as he did a league below with Dunfermline, and in League One with Raith Rovers before that.

But Allan, who has had a watching brief with Hibs during his time out this term, is adamant there is more to Nisbet’s game than just his goals.

And, with the likes of Oli Mcburnie, Lawrence Shankland and Oli Burke failing to convince as back-up to new first-choice Scotland target man, Lyndon Dykes, Allan is in no doubt that his team- mate has what it takes.

He said: “You can see the contribution he makes to the team, but it’s the unselfish stuff he does as well.

“Against Motherwell, it was just his work ethic and desire towards the end of the game to win us the ball back, and we got two goals from his hard work.

“That’s the stuff some people don’t see because they want to see the nice things he does on the ball.

“But I think he’s getting better and better as the season goes on and, hopefully, he can keep that up.

“The first day I trained with him, I thought he looked the part – and I’ve been proven right.

“He’s only growing game by game, and I think he’s in with a real shout of getting into the Scotland set- up.

“If he keeps his performances up going into the latter stages of the season, he must have a good chance of getting into St e v e C l a r k e’s plans for the Euro Finals.

“Considering the other options Scotland have, I think he’s looking to stake a claim now, I definitely think so.”
