Mclean opener sets up Canaries to beat Sky Blues

-

An early Kenny Mclean goal set Norwich on their way to a 2-0 victory over fellow Championship side Coventry in a lowkey tie at Carrow Road.

His assured sixthminute finish and a firm header from Jordan Hugill 80 seconds later settled a game that rarely hit the heights after an exciting start.

Coventry had their moments, but found young goalkeeper Daniel Barden in good form and could have few complaints about the final outcome.

League One Doncaster c a u s ed an upset by defeating Championship side Blackburn 1-0.

Taylor Richards’ third goal of the season three minutes before halftime was enough to put Darren Moore’s men into the draw.

There was to be no fairytale for Boreham Wood as they tamely exited the tournament, beaten 2- 0 by Millwall. Kenneth Zohore and Shaun Hutchinson sent the Lions through.

Sheffield Wednesday overcame both a Covid outbreak and gallant Exeter City to win 2-0.

The Owls had to shut their training ground this week due to a “significant number” of Covid cases, but they were still able to field a strong side against their League Two opponents.

G o a ls fr om A d am R e a ch and Cal l u m Paterson did the damage.

Josh King netted his first two goals of the season as Bournemouth swatted aside League Two Oldham 4-1.

Lyle Taylor ended a 13-game goal drought to fire Nottingham Forest through as they beat Cardiff City 1-0.

George Moncur scored the only goal of the game as Luton saw off Reading 1-0 at Kenilworth Road.

Headers from Wayne Routledge and Viktor Gyokeres ensured Swansea comfortably made it into the hat, with a 2-0 win at Stevenage.

Wy c o m b e b re e z e d past Preston 4- 1, while Saman G h o d d o s ’s 64th-minute strike earned Brentford 2- 1 win over Middlesbrough.

League One Plymouth fought back from behind twice to beat Huddersfield 3- 2, with Joe Edwards grabbing a 70th-minute winner.

Despite a late fightback, Bre n t f o rd survived to knock Middlesborough out of the cup with 2-1 victory.

The Bees led through Halil Dervisoglu’s strike from Saman Ghoddos’ c o r n e r, 10 minutes before half-time.

Three minutes after the restart, Boro levelled through Sam Folarin’s low shot from close range after he latched on to Patrick Roberts’ shot.

But Ghoddos struck again in the 64th minute following some good work from Alex Gilbert to give Brentford their second lead in th e game.

They held on to win, despite a late onslaught from their fellow Championship side.
