Refund for a holiday put on ice

-

Harry Wallis felt like he was getting the cold shoulder when he tried to get a refund from an accommodation provider for a cancelled trip to Iceland.

Last August, Harry and his wife paid for a three-night trip to Reykjavik in Iceland via Booking.com that was scheduled to depart next month.

He paid £260 to stay at the Northern Comfort Apartments in the country’s capital city but the flights were called off due to Covid-19.

“When we booked, it did say that, once paid this is nonrefundable, but it didn’t say non-changeable, so when our airline got in touch telling us they had cancelled our flights we asked the apartment owners for a refund due to the travel restrictions from the UK,” Harry, from Invergordon, Easter Ross, said. “However, they said that a non-refundable booking meant just that.

“We were disappointed but when I then asked if we could change dates to later in the year I was told that we couldn’t change dates on a non-refundable booking.

“This did not seem very fair, especially a we are talking quite a bit of our money that they apparently intended to keep.”

Feeling like he was getting nowhere with his complaint, Harry wrote to Raw Deal for help.

The good news is that after we contacted Booking.com, the company looked into the issue and a full refund for the cancelled stay was soon in Harry’s bank account.

Harry said he was delighted with the outcome.

He added: “Raw Deal, you worked magic and I have received a payment of £252. Thank you very much.”
