Fleabag Phoebe’s Mr & Mrs Smith role
Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-bridge is to star in a reboot of Mr & Mrs Smith.
Ms Waller-bridge will feature alongside Atlanta actor Donald Glover in the Amazon series based on the 2005 movie starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
The film told the story of married assassins who get assigned to kill each other.
The pair are also acting as executive producers of the series, which will be released next year.
Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, said:
“Talk about the dream team. Donald and Phoebe are two of the most talented creators and performers in the world.
“It’s truly a dream for us, as it will be for our global audience, to have these two forces of nature collaborating as a powerhouse creative team.
“Mr & Mrs Smith is an iconic property, and we can’t wait to see how Donald, Phoebe and Francesca [Farago] make it their own.”
Executive producers Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer said in a joint statement that Ms Waller-Bridge’s involvement took the project to “another level”.
They added that she made “the project worthy of a reimagining for both new audiences and past fans of the original film”.
The series will be on Amazon’s Prime Video.
Official figures show another 45 deaths from coronavirus and 908 positive tests were recorded in the past 24 hours in Scotland. Across the UK there were another 621 deaths and 13,308 cases recorded.
The figures come as Professor Steven Riley, a member of the government’s Spi-m modelling group, warned that restrictions could not be dropped, despite the success of the vaccine programme.
He said if we were to behave as if Covid were not there “then there is the potential to go back to a wave that is a similar size to the one that we are in now”.
