Teachers are back at work and need a jag

£25 STAR LETTER

- G Cannon, by email

I’m over 50, well over actually, and am still to get my vaccine letter so I’m waiting for the postman every day like I’m 10 and it’s my birthday.

Everyone I know talks about nothing else, who’s had it, who hasn’t, whose had their second and on and on.

I am sure there are very good reasons why they are doing things the way they are but there is one thing I really don’t get. If getting kids back to school was so important, and I think it is, why aren’t teachers getting their jag?

Everyone that is dealing with the public when lockdown ends, from bus drivers to shop workers, should be a priority but teachers are back at work now. They should get it. Margaret Pierce, Glasgow

Men get scared too

The law must come down hard on men who assault, verbally abuse and harass women on public transport. That’s a given. However, Helena Kennedy is wrong to criticise men who fail to intervene.

Men can also be afraid when travelling and that fear of being attacked often prevents them, particularly if they are on their own, from taking a stand. We are not all the “brave” chaps she might like us to be, although whenever men deem it safe, they should do something, call or text the police. Stephen Mcbride, Largs

Got a lot? Give a little

The UK has had to dig very deep indeed to battle this pandemic, however we are blessed with many millionaires and even some billionaires; so if they would be so kind to help by giving a small proportion of their vast wealth we might get back to normal. Doubtless some have already quietly done that and I thank them. Perhaps others might to follow suit. Robert Kittle, by email

Work on history

Anas Sarwar seeks, rightly, to get people back to work, restart the NHS, and alleviate poverty. He does however insist that this has to be done in a whole UK context. Sadly history is obviously not one of his strong points as for the last hundred years or so those same ideals have not been achieved, and are continually countered or watered down by the baleful influence of the British establishment. Independence offers an opportunity for Scotland to achieve those ends.

The forgotten Blitz

Congratulations on the article from John Macleod highlighting the 80th anniversary of the Clydebank Blitz. Watching recent TV programmes you get the impression that the Blitz really happened in London and maybe in Coventry. Clydebank and other areas are generally forgotten. Douglas Lowe, Balerno

Jimmy who?

Has anybody else been watching Your Honor? I enjoyed it but, for the life of me, couldn’t understand why a Scottish crime family was ruling the New Orleans underworld. Jimmy Baxter might be a good name for a footballer but it seems quite an odd one for a Louisiana gangster!
