Black lives must matter more than this

- M Mccauley, by email

I’m not a lawyer but as far as I can make out if Slavia Prague’s Ondrej Kudela had said what he said to Rangers’ Glen Kamara in the stands at Ibrox instead of on the pitch, he would have been arrested, charged and be in the dock.

A 10-match Uefa ban sounds like a punishment but only by the standards of a sport where racism has been ignored and downplayed for so long. His comments were so awful that they deserve a criminal conviction. Footballers and all sports people need to face the same laws and the same punishments as everyone else.

Prince among men

The late Duke of Edinburgh will be remembered for many things. His selfless sense of public service is an inspiration to us all. From naval service where he saw active combat to his support of Her Majesty over decades, he always put others first.

Thousands of young Scots continue to learn new skills and gain confidence each year through the Duke of Edinburgh scheme. Such a life and character encourages us all to consider supporting others and the wider community in how we lead our lives.

With distinction

I was saddened by the death of Prince Philip. He was a remarkable faithful companion and loyal stalwart to the Queen. He was her rock. He also contributed immensely to charities and invested in the future of young people with his Duke Of Edinburgh Award.

He will also be remembered for his own quirky sense of humour He has served this country well. Gordon Kennedy, Perth

Not another one

Whoever you vote for, Scottish elections have become meaningless with the SNP all but certain to win comfortably. Every opinion poll that asks the question says voters do not put independence in their top five priorities but it’s all we seem to talk about. The SNP have had 14 years to sort out hospitals and schools so what is the point of making more promises? I used to like an election but it seems a little pointless now. Avril Coupar, by email

Public outrage

The STV leaders’ debate was better than the BBC one. The questions seemed a bit more to the point. I’d hate to think it was because ordinary people weren’t involved but I suspect it was.

Twice the fun

What a lovely story about Margot Mccuaig and all the twins in her family. It really cheered me up. Did anyone see the grown-up twins on The Repair Shop who dressed the same? They made me smile too. Diana Sneddon, Dumfries

Delivering TV joy

I see Call The Midwife is celebrating 10 years. I always thought it would be a bit silly but have started watching it and can’t stop. They deal with a lot of serious issues and the acting is first class.
