Ownersarejust custodians. Fans arefansforlife

-

I fully understand why some Manchester United supporters wanted to show their feelings last week towards their club owners before the game against Liverpool.

They protested against the way the Glazer family runs their football club and, in particular, the plans for the European Super League.

They certainly vented their anger and frustrations, and most of them managed to do it in a peaceful way.

But a few people caused a bit of mayhem, and that’s what made the headlines.

It was very sad to hear that a couple of policemen were injured, one of them seriously. That should never have happened.

The game at Old Trafford last Sunday had to be postponed, and it has resulted in a fixture pile-up for United, which isn’t helpful in any shape or form.

Fans, however, should always remember that football club owners are only custodians.

Fans are fans for life, and that’s why they

should always be listened to.

There was also controversy in Glasgow in midweek when Partick Thistle made the decision not to invite anyone from the SPFL or SFA to their League One trophy presentation.

The Jags felt aggrieved over what happened last season, and the manner in which they were relegated from the Championship.

I can see why they were furious at the time. That said, I don’t think there would have been many on Hampden’s sixth floor who took pleasure in how it all unfolded last season due to the pandemic.

There was a sense of justice in the Jags winning promotion this season. The same applies to Hearts.

But I didn’t necessarily agree with their stance towards the hierarchies at Hampden.

I would have risen above it all, and invited them all along to share the moment.

It would have then been interesting to see who actually showed up to publicly congratulate, and applaud, the club for their wonderful achievement.
