Confusion reigns in Fuchs racism storm

- By Euan Mcarthur SPORT@SUNDAYPOST.COM

Malky Mackay last night hit out at opposing manager Tam Courts after Dundee United launched an investigation into an alleged racist incident.

The Ross County boss claimed Courts’ decision to display an anti- racism red T- shirt to County fans at full- time was “interesting” after insisting it was a swear word which ignited the drama.

It all threatened to boil over just after Llmari Niskanen scored as Tangerines midfielder, Jeando Fuchs, was soon being consoled by his team-mates.

But Mackay was adamant Courts made an error of judgment.

He said: “It appears something was shouted from the stand. There has been confusion to what that was because our chief executive, and members of the Dundee United staff, were in seeing the referee at half-time.

“There had been authorities seeing where our fans were. It appears it was a swear word, that’s coming from Dundee United stewards who are in among them.

“It appears it was misheard from the pitch. People have said it was a swear word.

“I thought it was an interesting thing to do, considering he ( Courts) doesn’t know exactly what has happened, neither do I.

“It is clearly premeditated because that red T-shirt isn’t sitting on the bench.

“For a manager to do that was an interesting judgment call to make.”

Courts did not attend the post-match media conference.

Mackay was gutted to see his side leave Tannadice with nothing to show for their efforts, but is convinced their luck will change in the coming weeks.

He added: “I thought we started really well in the first 20 minutes, and we got behind them a few times.

“It was a mistake for the goal. That changed the momentum and in the second part of the first- half, they had a lot of momentum.

“In the second- half, we changed it a little, and we were excellent, creating an incredible amount of chances.

“We had three point-blank headers, a goal disallowed, we hit the post and their keeper has made saves.

“We just need a bit of luck.”
