Peter Grant insists he will not walk away from Dunfermline as his side remained rock-bottom of the Championship following Queen of the South’s later winner.

The Pars gaffer is under intense pressure following a dreadful start to the campaign.

Dunfermline are winless after their opening eight games and following their loss to the Doonhamers a number of away supporters were calling for Grant to get the chop.

But the former Celtic midfielder insists he has no intention of resigning.

He said: “I won’t be quitting because I do my job 100%. I know what’s expected of my job and I work 100% every day.

“It is a decision for somebody else but I’ve had nothing but support from people in the club.

“I can understand if I’m not the manager for much longer but one thing I can say is that I’ve given everything to try to do it right.

“I’m so gutted about the performance today – that’s the biggest bugbear for me. I know the consequences if you don’t win football matches.”

It certainly wasn’t a classic at Palmerston with both sides struggling to create many clear-cut chances.

The first shot on target came from the hosts on 20 minutes when Lee Connelly curled a long-range effort straight into the arms of Owain Fon Williams.

Proceedings picked up in the second period but again the lack of a cutting edge from both teams was evident. Queens’ Alex Cooper had one effort palmed away by Fon Williams on the hour and Kai Kennedy’s 20-yard shot glanced inches wide of the post.

Kevin O’hara thought he had opened the scoring with 10 minutes to go but his strike was correctly ruled out for offside.

With five minutes left, the Dumfries men finally found the breakthrough when Connelly toe-poked the ball into the top corner from eight yards.

Delighted Queens boss Allan Johnston said: “It wasn’t a game of many chances but overall we deserved to win with the amount of pressure we put on them.

“We put them on the back foot for the majority of the match.

“Lee’s a talented player and has fitted in really well.

“He needed to add goals to his game and he’s started to do that. We’ve gave him a bit of freedom and I thought he was a constant threat.”
