Rothes come from behind to lift trophy

-

ROTHES added the North of Scotland Cup to their sideboard, sitting beside the Highland League Cup, as they came from a goal down to defeat BRORA RANGERS 2-1.

Brora got off to a perfect start, Matthew Wright slotting a low cross into the bottom corner. On 48 minutes, the Speysiders were level as Michael Finnis scored, then, with 15 minutes to go, Ryan Mcritchie hit the winner.

In League action, FRASERBURGH won 2-1 at CLACHNACUDDIN after Lewis Duncan netted with barely a minute gone. Clach levelled through James Anderson, but, despite seeing Kieran Simpson sent off in the final minute, Scott Barbour found the bottom corner with his left foot from eight yards to give the Broch the three points.

Jack Milne, Kieran Inglis and Marc Scott scored for hosts BRECHIN in their 3-2 victory over BUCKIE THISTLE. Sam Urquhart and Jack Murray netted for the visitors, who were reduced to 10 men a minute from time when Sam Morrison was shown the red card.

FORT WILLIAM, who picked up their first point in midweek, went down 3-1 at home to WICK. They led through Marios Avraam, but Andrew Hardwick levelled before half-time, and Jack Halliday and David Allan scored two more to give Wick the points.

TURRIFF UNITED weren’t troubled in their 4-0 home victory over DEVERONVALE. A 35-yard free-kick from captain James Chalmers netted the first goal and Kyle Buxton added two more before Matthew Mcdonald completed the scoring.

In the NAIRN v INVERURIE clash, the only goal of a poor game came in 18 minutes. Locos’ Ross Still got his head to a corner and it fell to Kieran Shanks. His attempt was blocked, but Neil Gauld was well-placed to knock the ball home from close range. County’s Adam Porritt was sent off for a second yellow offence in 67 minutes.

Neither FORRES MECHANICS or visitors KEITH could muster a goal and settled for a point apiece as the match drifted to an inevitable stalemate.
